Admissions Overview

CIS is the leading international school in Kolkata, serving both local and expatriate communities. CIS believes that the primary purpose of a school is to identify and nurture each child’s talents. We pride ourselves on our cosmopolitan culture, well-trained teachers, a low student – teacher ratio of 1:6, a global curriculum, and a safe & secure environment.

We welcome applicants – both foreign and Indian nationals – to all classes. The threshold for admissions at the Pre-Nursery is three-year old. To maintain the unique character of CIS, certain numbers of seats are kept reserved for admissions to various classes throughout the year. Preference is given to expatriates, foreign passport holders, non-resident Indians, siblings and children of alumni. Applicants are requested to download the admission form from the website and follow the application process and guidelines enumerated there.

Many students from other schools join CIS at the ‘A’ Levels and IB Diploma Programme, to avail of our excellent career counseling and college placement programme and obtain international high school certifications, which is very helpful for their higher studies abroad. Please see our Placements (link) page for further details.

In a commitment to the safety and security of our students and all the members of the CIS community, we require visitors to make prior appointments before coming to the school. We request you to call our offices to make an appointment to meet with the admissions officer. Due to Covid restrictions, we are currently not allowing school tours.

As CIS maintains a very low student to teacher ratio (approximately 1:6, one of the best in the world), class sizes are restricted.

Admission is at the discretion of the School Management and the submission of an application form does not guarantee admission. Payment of the application fees is towards the – process and admissions are completely at the discretion of the School Management.

Please note any attempt to bypass the normal admission process, or directly contact any senior functionary or board member to unduly influence the normal admission process, would automatically debar the application.
