Primary School

  • Calcutta International School strives to provide a harmonious, secure and caring environment in which the emotional, social, intellectual, physical and moral well being of the pupils are identified and nurtured.
  • The foundation years are thoughtfully put together as CIS allows open-mindedness – freedom of expression both for students and teachers.
  • A well paced and balanced curriculum comprises of Language Arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking), Math, Science, and Environmental Studies as the core subjects. The teaching approach is theme based and well integrated.
  • Learning phonics and numbers through Jolly Phonics and Jodo Gyan is incorporated effectively. Physical Education, Drama, Music Art and Craft are some of the other subjects.
  • A vast scope for “hands on” activities is provided. The focus is mainly on acquiring skills at this stage.
  • Being an International school, CIS provides a platform of International standard along with a warm blend of Indian culture and hospitality.
  • The parent, student and teacher link is our distinctive feature. There is excellent communication between the parents and teachers. They make a positive and progressive contribution to enhance the learning process.  They come in as visitors to share their professional skills and knowledge.
  • Field trips and excursions provide opportunities for learning and giving a larger exposure to real life situations.
  • Since we house international students, all festivals and special days are observed to create a sense of Unity and Diversity.
  • The Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) curriculum, stage 1, is introduced in the Upper Nursery. The curriculum, both theory and practical, is adapted to each child’s level and skill. Besides the core subject of English, Science and Math, other subjects included P.E, Music, Drama, Art and Craft.
  • Along with academics, character building plays an equally important role in our school. Integrating Living values into the teaching system, and emphasizing the practice of these values in daily interactions is the ethos of our school. We begin the day with a “Mood” card where a positive mood of the day is set as an affirmation of practising the values throughout the day. Keeping this in mind, values are introduced to the children through the medium of art, drama, songs, stories, games, poems, creative meditation, discussions and other group activities which are showcased during morning assemblies.
  • The VIP of the week is a specialized activity conducted throughout the year to highlight the uniqueness of each child recognizing their strength and talents. The parents of the child are also invited during the week to conduct an activity.
