Aims & Objectives of Sub-Committees for 2009-2010
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ACADEMIC SUB-COMMITTEE
The academic sub-committee is responsible for reviewing and assessing the academic structure of the school, including an academic plan to strategically add value to CIS's overall academics to meet the demands of students across the school.

The curriculum, quality of faculty, teaching standards, global programmes, will come under the purview of the academic sub-committee, during the current academic session.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ADMISSION SUB-COMMITTEE
The admissions sub-committee will be formulating written policies on the following areas based on an ends policy that the applicant will meet CIS's academic and behavioural standards, with the commitment to admit students who can best benefit and contribute to CIS:
  • An organised way of calling board members for interviewing prospective parents
  • Policies for English as a second language (ESL) and Engilsh as a foreign language (EFL) applicants
  • Special Educational Needs Policy (SEN)
  • Continuous upgradation of the admission form
  • Policies on student-teacher ratio and class sizes
  • Regular review of existing board policies
  • Upgradation of the computerised admission system
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) SUB-COMMITTEE
The HR sub-committee will be introducing an HR policy and procedural manual to standardise all HR practices at CIS. This is being developed as a management strategy and will be a legacy of this Board.

The sub-committee will be implementing the appraisal process for all staff and faculty.

The HR sub-committee will evolve a dispute resolution process enabling all at CIS to work together in a congenial atmosphere.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF HEALTH & SAFETY SUB-COMMITTEE
The health and safety sub-committee aims
  • to improve the safety of the school and develop health programmes across the school
  • to give specialized training to the school nurse for both routine work and emergecies
  • to develop an incident reporting system for attendances to the school sick room and to evaluate the same periodically
  • to assess safety areas and areas for improvement at the school
  • to establish tie-up with a local hospital in case of an emergency
  • to give training in Basic Life Support to members of staff and senior students
  • to maintain cleanliness across the school
  • to establish a safety monitoring system in the school and on the perimeter roads
  • to monitor the quality of food and hygiene in the cafeteria
  • to arrange pastoral services, seminars for parents and interactive sessions with the school counsellor regarding childhood and adolescent problems
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ALUMNI SUB-COMMITTEE
Calcutta International School is on its way to launch its first official alumni association. The process has been initiated to get all the ex-students all over the globe to reconnect with their alma mater. An event, called "Back to School", has been scheduled on 3rd January 2010, to welcome all ex-students to the school they once used to know as a beautiful cozy bungalow that has now morphed into this flourishing institution. All teachers who have been associated with this school have been invited. The CIS Alumni association will soon start its own website and e-newsletters to keep everyone updated. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE
The finance sub-committee will be looking at the financial health of the school and shall therefore look into all aspects of the financial reporting of the business office, strengthening of financial policies and budgeting including drawing up departmental budgets. This committee will scrutinise the school's expenditure, rationalise expenses and make necessary recommendations to the Board.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING SUB-COMMITTEE
The development and fundraising sub-committee, along with other parent volunteers, is working to raise funds for the school in the following categories-
  • Building Fund
  • Maintenance Fund
  • Library Fund
  • Development Fund
The above will be initiated by this committee. The sub-cimmittee will assess the current financial situation of the school and the need for fund raising, brainstorm fund raising ideas and come up with a plan for the school year. The committee will also ensure that funds raised are effectively used.

The sub-committee will identify a PR person for the school who will be able to help CIS in future fund raising activities.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF EXTRACURRICULAR SUB-COMMITTEE
The extracurricular sub-committee will reinforce the mission of extracurricular activities (ECA) for the students of CIS through the values of co-operation, teamwork, responsibility and time management. Hence, the committee is committed to pursuing the proper functioning of the extra curricular activities provided in school since July 2009. Additionally, all ECA will be assessed and included in the students' progress report.

One of the goals will be to see CIS as an active participant in interschool activities and have a calendar of inter school competitions to ensure preparedness. To meet this need, specialized workshops will be organised at the school.
